چکیده

This paper introduces a modelling concept which aims at creating an environment which allows the application of global optimisation techniques like Genetic Algorithms in dynamic and complex environments. Such environments are often modelled using multi agent systems. The self-evident drawback of multi agent approaches is that global optimisation techniques are not applicable naturally. The model proposed in this paper divides the overall optimization task into many hierarchically organised small optimization problems and understands the main optimisation objective in the localisation of a ‘good’ combination of suboptimal solutions of the optimisation tasks in the lower layers of the hierarchy.

Emergency department resource optimisation for improved performance: a review

Emergency departments (EDs) have been becoming increasingly congested due to the combined impacts of growing demand, access block and increased clinical capability of the EDs. This congestion has known to have adverse impacts on the performance of the healthcare services. Attempts to overcome with this challenge have focussed largely on the demand management and the application of system wide p...

A multi Agent System Based on Modified Shifting Bottleneck and Search Techniques for Job Shop Scheduling Problems

This paper presents a multi agent system for the job shop scheduling problems. The proposed system consists of initial scheduling agent, search agents, and schedule management agent. In initial scheduling agent, a modified Shifting Bottleneck is proposed. That is, an effective heuristic approach and can generate a good solution in a low computational effort. In search agents, a hybrid search ap...

A multi-agent simulation system for prediction and scheduling of aero engine overhaul

The Aero Repair and Overhaul industry is facing an increasing challenge of prediction and scheduling of engine overhauls to remain competitive in a complex business arena. An appropriate technology solution is required to achieve efficient schedules while satisfying multiple opposing constraints in a highly dynamic environment. In this paper, we describe Overhaul Prediction and Scheduling, an a...

Integrating Optimisation And Agent-Based Modelling

A key strength of agent-based modelling is the ability to explore the upward-causation of micro-dynamics on the macro-level behaviour of a system. However, in policy contexts, it is also important to be able to represent downward-causation from the macro and mesolevels to the micro, and to represent decision-making at the macro level (i.e., by governments) in a sensible way. Though we cannot mo...
